Taping after rhinoplasty is necessary to reduce swelling. During the early recovery period, the soft tissues of the nose may swell, especially in the area of the tip of the nose. Swelling usually increases in the evening and at night when lying down. The tape provides additional support and tension to the skin to reduce swelling. Rhinoplasty changes the shape of the cartilage under the skin, and taping helps the soft tissue to better integrate with the new underlying structures.<\/p>

The tapes should be placed on the nose with slight tension according to the diagram shown on the page. Start with tapes perpendicular to the bridge of the nose, then a curved strip of tape around the tip of the nose, and finally an additional cross tape just above the tip of the nose.<\/p>

Best suited for taping Micropore 12mm wide<\/strong> skin-colored paper tape, but other similar tapes are also suitable.<\/p>

Swelling is a natural part of rhinoplasty. It is often worse in the morning, decreases during the day, and may be more noticeable on one side due to sleeping position. The tape applies gentle, even pressure to the skin, reducing swelling fluctuations and helping the soft tissues to adapt to the underlying framework. It does not change the shape of the bone or cartilage or permanently make the nose smaller \u2013 the contour may simply become clearer sooner if the swelling is kept under control.<\/p>

In a randomized trial, taping for two or four weeks reduced postoperative swelling, with the benefit being more pronounced in patients with thick skin.
